The streets were alive with the sound of party poppers filled with streamers and confetti as revelers celebrated the Chinese New Year in New York City. Adults and children alike cheered as the dragons danced down the streets and into the local businesses of Chinatown. Happy New Year!

Inauguration Day in Harlem

What a day! I had the privilege of experiencing the inauguration at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building at 163 West 125th Street Street along with a sea of people watching on the Jumbo-Tron Television screen. It is an understatement to say that it was a powerful moment. It was incredible...the emotion was electrifying. Tears of joy were everywhere. People were reflective, jubilant, and hopeful. It may be cliche to say it, but everyone had the sense that for that one moment we were part of something larger, and that we were part of history in the making. I hope my pictures do justice to what I and everyone else experienced that day.

Another Great Night at the New York Athletic Club!

A great time was had by all tonight at the New York Athletic Club, www.NYAC.org located on Central Park South just east of Columbus Circle. Tonight the club celeberated with '100 years of Hollywood', a musical review by some of Broadways best talent. The sets and lighting were artfully created by Sarah Schetter of Queens Theatre in the Park, www.queenstheatre.org

Last but not least, desert was out of this world, everyone raved!

About Hal Lyman, lead photographer at Full View Studios, or more simply put, my biography:

Hal Lyman comes from a family with a rich photographic background. Grandfather Leonard Victor was lead photographer and photography editor for Long Island's leading newspaper of the time, The Long Island Press. And, Hal's childhood home featured its very own darkroom. Hal's dedication to photography began at a young age when he got behind the camera for his high school newspaper, The Bellport Clipper. His enthusiasm led him to study photography at Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communications. While studying at Ithaca College he participated in an internship at the Ithaca Journal, the local Gannett daily newspaper until graduation in 1991. In 1995, he decided to focus his artistry on portrait and event photography and opened his own studio.

Hal's personal approach to photography has ingratiated him to a highly varied clientele over the years. He has been privileged to photograph both intimate family moments and public events turning them into memories.

He has had the opportunity of photographing high profile personalities, such as Laila Ali and most recently musician, KT Tunstall and top model Bar Raphaeli. It is Hal's love for meeting new people and interacting with them that keeps his work fresh on a daily basis.

Hal's passion for people led him to volunteer with the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company as an emergency medical technician. Hal likes to think that it is the same ability to quickly establish a comfortable rapport with his subjects that helps him put his patients at ease.

Hal lives on the north shore of Long Island with his wife Piper, a graphic designer and painter.

Chrissy Spath & Ryan Wilsberg Married August 8th, 2008

Chrissy started the day with a smile that lasted throughout the day!

I love this plaque that was hung in her parents home, it has special relevance today.

Poor Suzy knew that she wasn't going to the party!

Chrissy had a blast on the trampoline, I love this shot!

A proud moment for Dad, Gary.

And a fun and joyous moment for Chrissy's grandparents.

The light streaming into the church after the ceremony was spectacular and they both glowed!

I hope that was a soft drink...cheers!

Martha Clara Vinyard made for a fantastic backdrop, look at that sky!

Ryan and his crew were a lot of fun to photograph.

Melissa Brewster & Gabe Struck Married August 3, 2008

This was a great wedding!
Here is Melissa at her house before the big day.

She was happy and relaxed, and it really came through in her images.

Here is a short sequence where Melissa & Gabe saw each other for the first time. It was a lot of fun!

Gabe was blown away by her look!

Gabe was really proud and Melssa looked great!

Strolling through Cedarmere, Nassau County Park and home of William Cullen Bryant. The weather was perfect, I love the way the colors of the grounds contrast with the blue sky, and look at those clouds!

Arriving at The Roslyn Claremont Hotel is style with Designer Limousines.
They were friendly and professional, and the car looked great!

Gabe looked so happy seeing Melissa walking down the aisle!

Gabe's brother Jesse sounded great during the ceremony!

I love this shot just before Gabe threw the garter!

Dawnyse Rivers & Daimion Myers Married Saturday August 2, 2008

Congratulations to Dawnyse Rivers & Daimion Myers who were married this weekend! Dawn and Daimion have been friends since their High School Days. Dawn now teaches Physical Education in the Public Schools while Daimion is completing his degree at Stony Brook
University.
A great time was had by all in a wedding that included a poetry reading-dance recital performance art piece as well as amazing Caribbean (Guyana) food. In an amazing transformation of the day what was a a rainy and cloudy day upon entering the church became sunny and pleasant upon leaving the church. I'm guessing a few people were asking for meteorological assistance while inside.

I loved this photo of best man Greg who started thinking about his own nuptials (not engaged) and was more then happy to hand over the rings to Dawnyse and Daimion during the ceremony!

Daimion looked so relaxed and happy after the ceremony, the sun was shining and we were off to the party!

Thoughts on a mission statement

I'm working on a mission statement and these are just a few quick thoughts on why a person chooses to work with a photography studio:
Photographers sell two things: Time and Talent. Photography studios sell two things, photography products and photographers. The only reason to hire a professional photographer is to have someone who can show you the world in a way that you would not see it yourself. The only reason to hire a photography studio is to have an organization that can bring you a photographer who can show you the world in a way that you would not see it yourself and the associated products that you would like to create from that photographer's vision.

What a great wedding this was! Last weekend (July 26, 2008) in Trumbull Connecticut. The Bride's name is Jayita, which is pronounced "Joy-eeta" which made it that much easier to remember the correct pronunciation as she was truly 'joyful' on her wedding day. She married Gregor, a 'Kiwi' from New Zealand where they will be returning after the wedding so he can continue his studies. The wedding took place at the Tashua Knolls Golf Course clubhouse which was a very elegant setting featuring an outdoor gazebo (not a traditional gazebo, very modern looking) where they said their wedding vows. The venue allowed for some fantastic photography and the food was excellent. I loved this picture of Jayita getting ready, with her mother putting on the traditional Bengali Indian adornments.
